Online Readings (1)

Insidious online tactics are becoming more prevalent with the Internet and need to be addressed. As I have browsed through web pages, ads, and the news, there are always places for people to comment their thoughts. I love reading through the comments posted because they often times are ridiculous, pointless, derogatory, and matter of fact, funny to read. In the article The Core Rules of Netiquette, I found rule number 7 the most interesting. Rule number 7 covered how to keep flame wars under control. I didn't know that the tactless act of people expressing their strong emotions has a name. Such acts and messages are known as "flaming." I agree when it states that flames can be fun both to write and read. But there is a time and place when one has gone too far and one comment turns in to a series of bashing comments. It is up to our own judgments to determine what is Internet worthy and what is not. Although we may avoid using them and understand the different contexts. I hope that through exposing these tactics we can stop the abuse in online conversations.
